Verify your identity for Companies House from Türkiye
Türkiye is not in the EU, and that single fact decides your route. A Turkish passport goes through the £39 digital check; a Turkish identity card or driving licence does not, but both are accepted when a qualified accountant examines them on a video call. Either way, you do it from Türkiye.
What this means
- If you hold a Turkish passport, use it. Turkish passports have been biometric for many years and the £39 digital check reads them — about five minutes on your phone, no appointment, no proof of address.
- Your Turkish identity card (T.C. Kimlik Kartı) is biometric, but the automated check accepts identity cards only from the EU, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein — and Türkiye is not an EU member. The same applies to a Turkish driving licence: the digital check accepts photocard licences from the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and EU only.
- Both of those documents are accepted on the video call route, where a qualified accountant can accept any photographic identity document catalogued on PRADO. Turkish identity cards and driving licences are. The video call is £49 and needs one more document alongside the photo ID.
- For that second document, a Turkish bank statement is accepted whatever address it shows, and a utility bill is accepted at your current address. It does not need to be in English.
- Because you live outside the UK, at least one of your documents must be government-issued. A passport, kimlik card or driving licence each satisfies that.

Can I use my Turkish driving licence on the online check?
No, and we have had to correct this with customers before, so we want to be clear. The automated digital check accepts photocard driving licences from the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and the EU only. Türkiye is not in the EU. A Turkish licence is accepted on the video call, where a qualified accountant examines it, alongside one supporting document.
Is a Turkish kimlik card accepted?
On the video call, yes — it is a government-issued photographic identity document catalogued on PRADO. On the digital check, no, for the same EU-only reason as the driving licence. If you hold a Turkish passport as well, that is the simpler route.
Does Companies House accept a Turkish passport?
Yes. There is no list of approved passport countries, and Turkish passports are biometric. It works on the £39 digital check, which is the route we recommend for anyone from Türkiye who holds one.
Can the whole thing be done from Türkiye, without attending a UK office?
Yes, on either route. The digital check is done on your phone. The video call is a live call with one of our qualified accountants; you show your original documents to the camera and nothing is posted anywhere.
