What is Companies House identity verification?

Identity verification is a new legal requirement under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. All company directors and PSCs must verify their identity to receive a Companies House personal code.

How much does identity verification cost?

Digital verification starts from £39, with video call verification available from £49. We also offer in-person verification from £59 and priority same-day service at £99.

How long does verification take?

Most digital verifications are completed within 24 hours. The actual identity check takes just 5-10 minutes.

What documents do I need?

For digital verification, you need a biometric passport or UK driving licence. For video call and in-person verification, a wider range of documents is accepted including national ID cards.

Do we have to register as an ACSP ourselves?

No. TaxStats ID is the Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP AP006589) and an ACCA-regulated firm — you act through us, so you don't have to take on ACSP registration, AML supervision or the verification liability yourself. This works the same whether you're an accountancy practice, a law firm or another adviser.

How do we manage verifications across our client book?

You get a partner portal: add your clients, buy verification credits in bulk, track who's verified / pending / outstanding, and request each client's Companies House Personal Code (released with the client's consent). Sign in at /partner/login once you're set up.

Can our clients verify in person?

Yes — digital (on their phone), video call, or in person at our Manchester or Ashton-under-Lyne offices. The in-person option is useful for clients without a biometric document, and it is something software-only tools cannot offer.

How is pricing structured for firms?

Firms buy verification credits in bulk rather than paying per one-off checkout. Get in touch with your rough client numbers and we will set you up with volume pricing.
