TaxStats ID is a private service, not a government website. We are a Companies House Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP AP006589) and charge a service fee to verify your identity and file on your behalf. You are not required to use us — you can verify directly with Companies House for free via GOV.UK.

Not sure which you need?

Verifying your identity and filing your PSC statement are two different things

Pick the one that matches your situation — most people only need one.

Step 1 · Verify identity

I need to verify my identity

You're a director or PSC and don't yet have a Companies House personal code — or you've been asked to verify. We verify you and Companies House issues your code.

I need to file my PSC verification statement

You've had a letter from Companies House about your PSC verification statement, or you already have your personal code. Verifying again won't clear it — the statement is the missing step. We file it for you.

Need both? Verify first, then file — or call us and we'll tell you exactly which applies to you.

What is a Person with Significant Control?

A Person with Significant Control (PSC) is an individual who has significant influence or control over a company. Most private companies have at least one PSC.

PSCs are often the same people as directors, but not always. You could be a PSC without being a director if you meet any of the criteria below.

You're a PSC if you:

Own >25% shares

Hold more than 25% of the company's shares

Control >25% votes

Control more than 25% of voting rights

Appoint directors

Can appoint or remove the majority of directors

Significant influence

Otherwise exercise significant control over the company

Not sure if you're a PSC?

Check your company's PSC register on Companies House, or contact us for guidance.

Why PSCs Must Verify Their Identity

Legal Requirement

The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act requires every PSC to verify their identity. Continuing to act as an unverified PSC after your deadline is a criminal offence and can mean a financial penalty.

Your Verification Deadline

If you're a PSC but not a director, you must verify within the first 14 days of your birth month. If you're also a director, you verify by your next confirmation statement (and by 18 November 2026 at the latest).

One Code, All Roles

Verify once and use your Personal Code for all your PSC and director positions across all companies.

How PSC Verification Works

The same simple process as director verification

1

Choose Your Method

Select digital (£39), video call (£49), or in-person (£59) verification.

2

Verify Your Identity

Complete verification using your passport, driving licence, or other accepted documents.

3

Receive Your Code

Companies House emails your Personal Code directly to you within a few days.

Your document must be in date. Expired passports, driving licences or ID cards are automatically rejected and your verification will fail — please check the expiry date before you start or pay.

PSC Verification FAQ

A Person with Significant Control (PSC) is someone who has significant influence or control over a company. This typically includes anyone who holds more than 25% of shares, holds more than 25% of voting rights, has the right to appoint or remove the majority of directors, or otherwise exercises significant influence or control.
Yes. Every PSC must verify their identity under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act. If you are a PSC but not a director, your deadline is within the first 14 days of your birth month. If you are also a director, you verify on the director timetable — by your next confirmation statement, and by 18 November 2026 at the latest. Continuing to act as an unverified PSC after your deadline is a criminal offence that can carry a financial penalty.
A PSC verification statement confirms to Companies House that a Person with Significant Control has completed identity verification. It is filed against the company, and is separate from you verifying your identity to get your personal code — verifying and filing the statement are two different steps. If you already have your personal code, we can file the statement (VS01) for you.
No, one verification covers both roles. Your Personal Code works for all your directorships and PSC positions across all companies. You only need to verify your identity once.
Corporate PSCs (Relevant Legal Entities or RLEs) have different requirements. The individuals who control that entity may need to verify their identity. Contact us for specific guidance on your situation.
You are likely a PSC if you: own more than 25% of shares, control more than 25% of voting rights, can appoint or remove most directors, or have significant influence over the company. Check your company's PSC register on Companies House.
For digital verification: a valid passport, UK/EU driving licence, or BRP. For video call and in-person verification: one photo ID plus one supporting document (like a utility bill or bank statement dated within 3 months).
