Stop your company being struck off

Had a letter, or seen a Gazette notice proposing to strike your company off? It’s usually fixable — and often within the week. Here’s what it means and exactly how to stop it.

What this means

  • A first Gazette notice is a public proposal to remove your company from the register — normally because a confirmation statement or accounts are overdue.
  • If nothing is done, the company is dissolved (usually about two months later). It then stops existing, its bank accounts are frozen, and any assets pass to the Crown.
  • Filing what’s outstanding — and completing any director identity checks — is normally what gets Companies House to suspend the strike-off.

How to put it right

  1. 1

    Check what’s overdue

Run a free health check to see exactly which filing or identity check is missing.

  2. 2

    File what’s outstanding

We file the overdue confirmation statement and verify directors for you as an authorised agent.

  3. 3

    Strike-off suspended

Once the register is up to date, Companies House normally discontinues the strike-off action.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to stop a strike-off?

After the first Gazette notice, Companies House normally waits at least two months before dissolving the company. Act within that window — the sooner you file what’s outstanding, the safer.

Can I stop a strike-off after the second notice?

It’s much harder once the second notice is published and the company is close to dissolution. The safest course is to file everything outstanding immediately and contact Companies House. We can help you move quickly.

What if my company has already been dissolved?

A dissolved company can sometimes be restored, but that’s a separate legal process and any assets will have passed to the Crown. Run the health check and we’ll tell you honestly what applies and point you to the right route.

How much does it cost to stop a strike-off?

The usual fix is filing the overdue confirmation statement — from £100 as a one-off. If accounts are involved, or the company is dissolved, we’ll tell you exactly what’s needed first.
